Chicago Shakespeare Theater

GALA 2016

Hosted by Ally and Suzette Bulley, Barbara Malott Kizziah and Keith Kizziah, and Paulita Pike and Zulfiqar Bokhari, GALA 2016 is a celebration of the global impact of Shakespeare—400 years in the making. Taking place on April 23, 2016 (which marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death), Chicago Shakespeare Theater will be joining in a worldwide day of festivity celebrating the Bard’s legacy across a wide array of artistic disciplines and global cultures. As the Theater’s signature annual fundraising event, GALA 2016 will sit at the center of a yearlong international arts festival held across Chicago’s leading cultural institutions and spearheaded by CST: Shakespeare 400 Chicago. Proceeds from the event directly support Chicago Shakespeare in Urban Classrooms and Communities—the Theater’s nationally recognized education programs and Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks. During this landmark year, GALA 2016 will draw five hundred of the city’s civic and cultural leaders to CST’s home on Navy Pier, where they will enjoy theatrical-inspired décor and living art installations.

Recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award, Chicago Shakespeare Theater is one of America’s largest, most celebrated theaters. CST produces a year-round season encompassing more than 600 performances at its home on Chicago’s Navy Pier and has been represented on stages around the world, including the Donmar Warehouse, Sydney Festival, Royal Shakespeare Company and the Market Theatre of Johannesburg. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Barbara Gaines and Executive Director Criss Henderson, CST produces extraordinary classic productions, musical theater, new works and serves as Chicago’s leading theatrical presenter of international productions.
